> Dr Bayetta Bellachew, new Director of Research and Developpement of IAOC

The IAOC (Inter African Coffee Organization), based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, has a new Director of Research and Developpement since January 21th, 2008.
Dr Bayetta Bellachew is a coffee breeder and the coffee and tea research programme co-ordinator at Jimma Agricultural Research Center in Ethiopia. He obtained his PhD in Plant breeding at the Imperial College at Wye, University of London. He developed high yielding and CBD resistant coffee varieties and hybrids by the use of the genetic diversity of Ethiopian coffee genepool.

> 22nd International Conference on Coffee Science

We are pleased to announce that Brazil has been chosen by ASIC´s Board to host the 22nd International Conference on Coffee Science. This important event will take place on September 14 -19, 2008, in the city of Campinas (São Paulo state/Brazil).

ASIC 2008 will gather the best of scientific knowledge related to coffee and will focus on two themes of great relevance: “Coffee and Health” and “Trends of Consumption and the Science of Coffee”.

As the world´s main coffee exporter and second largest consumer country, we expect to attract interested delegates from all nations to Brazil, promoting a network of scientific researchers, industry representatives, authorities, growers, media and other important segments connected to coffee production and consumption.

Campinas offers a modern and efficient infrastructure, is easily accessible and has fine hotel accommodation. The city has 1.2 million inhabitants and is known for its technological and scientific excellence apart from being recognized as an important center for coffee research. 

For those who intend to visit some beautiful places in Brazil, before or after ASIC 2008, we are preparing some attractive tours to:
